The Kamloops Exploration Group was thrilled to have volunteer Don Bouffard give an incredible presentation to the Westsyde Girl Guides. The 25 guides were mesmerized by the talk and all the samples that went with it. Not only did we turn this into a pizza party, each girl walked away with a fascinating rock, gifted by members of the Thompson Valley Rock Club.
The Kamloops Exploration Group honoured Ab Ablett by renaming our charity golf tournament in his name. Ab Ablett was a founding member of KEG who was not only an incredible asset to the group but also to the mining industry in BC.
The Ablett family has chosen the New Life Community Kamloops as the benefiting community charity this year.
We had 43 golfers and more for dinner. This was an incredible event... and all for a great cause. Check out our facebook page for all the photos from the day!
Together we raised $2,463.18! Thank you to everyone for your generous support.
Thank you to all our sponsors!
Thank you to our many volunteers for making our first time at Meet A Machine a success. KEG had Ask A Geologist, bird seed mining and future miners business card making where kids received a piece of flake gold. Thank you to the event organizers for a great day and the invite to take part. We look forward to taking part next year!
KEG was so excited to run the 2nd Annual KEG Directory Contest! Students drop off their drawings of anything in the mining or exploration industry for a chance to win a pizza party for their class and have their masterpiece on the cover of the Annual KEG Directory! We had so many creative drawings submitted, and it was a very hard decision... but we have selected a winner and 3 hounourable mentions! The 3 runners up will all win a KEG t-shirt! Thank you to The Kamloops Museum & Archives and to everyone who entered. You are all artists and can see your submissions on display at the Annual KEG Conference & Trade Show April 12th & 13th at the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Conference Centre. *teachers will be contacted about prizes*
Congratulations to HOLLY BARCLAY for her first prize win with this beautiful painting!
Holly is in grade 2 and will be enjoying a pizza party with her class this month! Way to go Holly!
As a part of our lecture series, when we bring speakers in we ask if they would be available for extra events. Dr Robert Young, once again, has given 2 days of his time to educating elementary school students with our museum visit talks. A huge thank you to The Kamloops Museum and Archives for hosting the classes in their amazing education room. Almost 150 students in total will take in the 40 minute presentation with and additional 20 minutes of hands on fun with the fossils and skull replicas. This is a great opportunity to students. Thank you Dr Robert Young for your time and incredible presentation.
KEG HOLIDAY CURLING SOCIAL
Thank you to everyone who attended our Annual KEG Christmas Curling Social. We had 30 curlers and more for dinner. We would also like to thank you all for your generosity! Together, KEG donated 68 pounds of food and $100 to the Kamloops Food Bank! Thank you to the MacArthur Park Curling Club staff for another great event and fabulous dinner!
ASK A GEOLOGIST
A huge thank you to the Kamloops Museum and Archives for co hosting the fall Ask A Geologist. Over 125 people came to have their rocks identified by our amazing volunteers. Thank you to Royanna Wild, Ed Frey, Chris LeClair and Steve Wanless for all your help and time! Because of the demand, we are looking at bringing 2 more Ask A Geologist's to the Museum as well as the one happening at mining day. Stay tuned for more information! Check out our facebook page for all the photos from the event.
UBC OKANAGAN FIELD TRIP
Thank you to Regional Geologist and KEG Volunteer Jim Britton and KEG Director Ed Frey for leading a field trip with the UBC Okanagan Geology Students on March 28th. Jim and Ed took the group to Highland Valley Copper and the KGHM Ajax Core Shack, among other stops.
KEG FIELD TRIPS
Thank you to KEG Director Ed Frey for teaming up with the TRU Outdoor Adventure Guide students on a 2 day geological field trip. Looks like they had a great time!
ASK A GEOLOGIST HIKE
Keg was thrilled to help out organizer Zena Ryder with an ask a geologist hike. Geologist James Barr toured more than 40 people through Gallagher's Canyon in Scenic Canyon Regional Park in Kelowna on Saturday October 19th. The kids were able to get their rocks identified before they all toured the canyon looking at rock formations.
KEG would like to extend a huge thank you to Rick Conte, Senior Vice President of AME BC, for coming to Kamloops to speak to 20 members about the Roger Willam VS BC (Tsilhgot'in Nation) Supreme Court of Canada decision. Members left with a great deal of knowledge.
KEG President Colin Russell had a very unique opportunity. Not only did he spend the day golfing with the Minister of Mines, MLA Bill Bennett... he had a one on one breakfast to discuss any issues in the mining industry. Colin was well prepared talking with members, directors and AMEBC to have lots to discuss. Thanks Colin for representing KEG and all its members!!
A huge thank you to Mining 4 Society Chair Royanna Wild and all the committee members, volunteers and those who attended. This was an incredible event full of hands on displays for the whole family. We look forward to next years!
